On March 28, 2019, at the Alexander Spendiaryan National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater, the audience had the opportunity to enjoy the second performance of Giuseppe Verdi`s "Attila" opera, the first premiere of which took place on February 21.
 
Harutyun Arzumanyan, the conductor of the National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet, said that the performance performed by theater soloists, orchestra and choir has its unique place on the world`s best stages. "This is the most prestigious opera of Verdi in the early periods of his career, which the composer himself highly appreciated. It is also very important to have it on our stage. I hope that one day our world-famous singer Barsegh Tumanyan will act Attila`s role” mentioned Arzumanyan. The conductor gladly recalled that after taking a break of twenty-five years, Barsegh Tumanyan came back on stage last year, performing in Tigran Tchouhadjian`s "Arshak B" opera.
 

 
The author of the Italian libretto of the opera, consisting of prelude and three acts, is Temistocle Solera. It was written on the basis of German playwright Zacharias Werner`s "Attila, King of the Huns" play. The opera was first performed on March 17, 1846, in Teatro La Fenice, Venice. The actions take place in the mid-5th century, in Aquila, in the Adriatic Sea, near Rome.
 

 
The roles are played by Hayk Tigranyan (Attila), Honored Artists of Armenia Marine Deinyan (Odabella) and Sargis Aghamalyan (Ezio), Hovhannes Andreasyan (Uldino) and other famous singers. According to Harutyun Arzumanyan, judging from the responses of the audience and commentators, the performance from now on will have its place in the theater`s playlist.
 
Armenian music lovers will enjoy another opera premiere next week as well. Armenian premiere of “The Magic Flute” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart will take place on April 4, 2019. This will also be the second performance; the first performance happened on February 25 in a crowded hall.
 

 
As the director-conductor mentioned, “The play is very educational. It spreads kindness and deep philosophy to both adult and young audience. The opera is challenging work and requires great singing skills from singers and orchestras. There are no minor roles in this opera; almost everyone plays the main role.”



 
This is the second opera written by Mozart to be performed on the Armenian stage. The first one is “Don Juan.” “The Magic Flute” has never been entirely performed in Armenia, only some parts were performed during concerts.
 

 
Before coming to the Armenian stage, “The Magic Flute,” staged by Alexander Spendiaryan National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater, was performed on the stages of Dubai and Kuwait City last year. The Armenian performers were honored to open the newly-built Kuwaiti National Opera Theater and stage the first opera in the history of this country. “This is one of the best examples of Armenian art`s representation in a foreign country,”- said Harutyun Arzumanyan.



 
Many premieres have been staged during the last months in Alexander Spendiaryan National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater. Performances such as Georges Bizet`s “Carmen,” Tigran Tchoukhajian’s “Karine,” “Manon” opera staged by Andrejs Zagars, and also “Cipollino” by Karen Khachatryan. The latter received “The Best Performance of the Year” award in terms of the “Artavazd” Theater Award 2019 which took place on March 27.
